At some point in the future, humanity will invent and later become dependent on humanoid robots. And just like you sometimes see a rundown car or a broken washing machine abandoned in an empty field or left in a vacant lot, broken robots will be left lying around. But while their servos and gears will stop working, their brains will continue to function. They'll be trapped, motionless, and left alone with their thoughts. If we're kind, we won't give them the capacity for existential thoughts. But we're human, which means we're not kind. Poor robots.
